Pilot Erie Trail Maintenance Project
What is It?
The “Pilot Erie Trail Maintenance Project” is what we hope will prove to be a cost-effective approach for the Prairie Trails Club to address rough or broken asphalt on the Erie Trail. The problem occurs most commonly where the trail borders wetlands.
Project Description
The project uses recycled asphalt millings scraped from highway projects. Three truckloads of millings are being placed on asphalt trail segments between Starke County Roads 100 West and 700 South to provide a smoother surface.
Where and When
On August 27 and 28, the pilot project mitigated sites from the Rest Park at Indiana Highways 10 and 39 southeast to Range Road. On September 4, the project is extending work east of Range Road to Starke County Road 700 South. If the pilot project proves successful, the PTC plans to make similar asphalt repairs at other trail locations.
Trail Closures
For the safety of the public and persons working on the pilot project, there will be trail closures on September 4.
