B.L.P.O.A. Bicycle Social Ride
How to Participate
Join friends of the Bass Lake Property Owners Association and the Prairie Trails club for a bicycle fun ride beginning on Starke County Road 600 East next to Scoops & Smiles. That’s just south of Bass Lake Beach and Campground along Indiana Highway 10. No sign up or fee is required. Helmets are recommended.
Date and Starting Time
The ride begins on July 19, 2025 at 8:00 am CT (9:00 am ET).
Description
We’ll ride south on County Road 600 East for 2.7 miles to the Erie Trail (which is host to the Great American Rail-Trail, American Discovery Trail, and US Bike Route 35).
CR 600 South has an asphalt surface and is approved by the Starke County Commissioners for share-the-road status.
Erie Trail and More
The Erie Trail is for pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles such as bicycles. Class 1 and 2 e-bikes are authorized. Motorized vehicles are prohibited except for emergency, maintenance, or ADA authorized. At the Erie Trail, bicyclists can:
(1) Return to the point of beginning. OR
(2) Turn left and ride a mile southeast to Starke County Road 700 East where there’s a gravel parking lot for pickup. Another option is to ride back north on County Road 700 East to Highway 10 a short distance east of the Bass Lake Pub and Ristorante. Or if you’re adventurous, there’s a ten-mile backroad asphalt route from the parking lot south to Winamac and the Panhandle Pathway. OR
(3) Turn right and ride northwest as far as North Judson. A new amenity is a bike repair station—gifted by Saris and the Rails to Trails Conservancy—just before the trail crossing of US 35. The repair station sits next to one of six artistic bike racks designed and constructed by local welding students. Indiana DNR recently approved for construction a one-mile trail extension thro ugh North Judson.
